Dealing With Heel Pain

Heel pain is usually associated with plantar fasciitis, which is the inflammation of the connective tissue that stretches across the foot and into the heel. You may feel stiffness in the foot, as well as soreness and tenderness. Symptoms may be exacerbated after waking up and after sitting for a long period of time. You usually won’t experience any heel pain while working out, but you may notice it once you are done with your workout.

Some common forms of treatment include:

  • Physical Therapy- This could include certain stretches and exercises that your doctor in Houston, TX, may prescribe to help with mobility and to help stretch out your joints. You should do these exercises as often as your doctor recommends.
  • Night Splints- Your doctor may request that you wear night splints while sleeping to help align your joints and keep irritation and inflammation at a minimum.
  • Shoe Inserts- You may need to get either custom or over-the-counter shoe inserts to help cushion your heels throughout the day and keep the impact as low as possible.
  • Ice- Icing the heel daily can help prevent your heel pain from being aggravated and can help you feel comfortable participating in daily life.
